Tips On Caring For Your Cut Flowers
Imagine it's a special occasion and you've just received a glorious bunch of roses. You put them in your best vase and you stand back to admire them. You'd love to make them last as long as you possibly can, but other than keeping them out of direct sunlight, you're not sure what to do. Here are some tips on how to extend the shelf life of your roses: 1. Remove the roses from the vase and put them in a temporary container. 2. Clean the vase by washing it thoroughly in water with household bleach. 3. Fill the vase with fresh water and add a half teaspoon of household bleach for each litre (16 fluid ounces) of water. 4. Remove your roses from their temporary container and lay them flat on a counter top. 5. Remove any leaves which will show below the waterline in the vase. 6. Cut about 20 mm (3/4 inch) from the base of each stem immediately before placing it in the vase. This removes any air bubbles. 7. Don't place roses in drafts or direct sunlight, or near fruit, heaters, TVs or refrigerators. 8. Change the water daily to extend the vase life of your roses. Freshly picked roses can last up to two weeks with a little extra care. Enjoy! Gerry Belvedere is a former artist who now runs her own online florist service at http://www.rosaflora-flowers.com. Invite Spring Early - Grow in Your Basement
Now's the time to get ready to grow your own seedlings! It's not really difficult, and can extend your growing season by many weeks. For example, by planting brassica's (cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower) in February in your basement under grow-lights, you can put large, sturdy transplants into your garden by the end of March or early April, and be eating them when others are just seeing them come up! However, remembering that photosynthesis, using light, heat and moisture causes plant growth, you must follow a few key natural principles very carefully, or you will be disappointed.

Fish Health in Hot Summer Heat
Summer is over, but for many of us - the heat remains.
Here a couple of things to do to keep your fish healthy
and your pond clear going into winter. First, remember
to keep your pond well aerated. This is very important
to your fish because the pond water actually holds less
oxygen at higher pond temperatures. So if it's still
hot in your part of the country, keep those waterfalls
and fountains running! This will keep your pond water
full of oxygen, and reduce stress on your fish.

Whether you have a preformed or a liner pond, a pond pump is a paramount component of any water feature. Therefore, it is paramount that you utilize a pond pump that circulates your body of water.

When selecting plants for the landscape, is important to select plants that will grow in your climate. The United States has 10 of growing or climate zones. These zones range from the zone 1 in the extreme northern part of United States, to his own 10, which covers the southernmost part. Zone 1, is for the most hardiest of cold weather plants. Temperatures in zone 1 can reach 50 degrees below 0. Zone 10 on the other hand, is is a more tropical climate. Zone 10 plants only need to worry about cold temperatures of 30 to 40 degrees.

Therefore, while the price of teak furniture is generally a little more than you would pay for cedar, redwood, or oak, the fact that teak furniture is strong and durable, it is money well spent.

Flower Meanings
Certain types or colors of flowers mean different things, and you don't want to send the wrong message if you give them as a gift! Of course, not everyone knows what a particular flower means, but you can never be too sure!
Marsh Marigold
The bright yellow flowers of the marsh marigold (Caltha palustris) are easy to mistake for the cowslip (primula veris). Both are widespread over Europe, Asia, and the U.S. However, the cowslip is a denizen of fields and pastures while the marsh marigold inhabits sloughs and stream banks.
